TÜV (Technischer Überwachungs-Verein) is translated to English as ‘Technical Monitoring Association’. TÜV is a German body responsible for certifying product safety for European consumers to protect hazards from damaging humans and the environment. The "TÜV Rheinland" mark is placed on tested and approved electrical devices similar to the UL (Underwriters Laboratory) certification in the US and Canada.
TÜV certification requires thorough testing of all components and functions that the product is designed for; and the product must comply with the stringent EU regulations for the application. Regular re-testing of the certified product is required to maintain the TÜV certification.
The TÜV mark will distinguish products in the market and will demonstrate:
- That products comply with the required legislation
- Regular re-testing of the certified product
- Information regarding the performance and spec of the certified product
EL International ensures that all required products are TÜV mark approved and that regular re-testing is carried out in order to maintain the certification.
